Each week I will discuss a female garment, fashion trend or influencer from the age of photography s through the 20th century. My goal is to educate family researchers and genealogists about the clothing worn by our ancestors. Dating photographs is an issue we all struggle with as family archivists. This week I introduce you to the armistice blouse. However, the name was not used until many years later when it was adopted by costumers and historians. A defining characteristic of the blouse was its decorative center panel which often featured lace inserts, embroidery or pin tucking. Many had long collars around the top portion of the neckline which often extended to the top of the center panel or even further. Generally, they were white or light beige natural undyed fabric.

The Tazewell County Genealogical & Historical Society is dedicated to researching the families and history of Tazewell County Illinois. Our library is at N. 11th St., Pekin, Illinois.
This collection of documents and books is made available to any interested researcher or casual visitor. The only requirement for researchers or browsers is their signature on the sign-in sheet each and every time they enter the room. Researchers are free to explore the shelves, open file drawers and pull out any file of interest to them.
Likewise, they are free to take down and look at any book of interest. Books can be signed out overnight only with permission of the reference librarian. Otherwise, books and documents may be taken out of the room only to be copied on the Library’s copy machine. Most of their materials have been copied and these copies are made available in the set of files at the entrance to the room. The files are arranged into the categories of Topical and Families, and they are arranged alphabetically.
Some information has been copied and made into notebooks that are arranged around the room for browsing and research. Topical files include information about communities, churches, sporting events, civic organizations, businesses, professions, schools, hospitals, Creek affairs, WWI, II, etc. This Topical information is not only valuable when researching organizations or events; it is often helpful when researching families and persons. Family files tend to be generic.
Information about all persons with the same last name or same sounding last name is put together in the same file.

This book on is made up of reproductions of old photographs of known date, and identity. There are over pictures with photos of virtually thousands of people covering the period from the s to the s. By comparing your unknown pictures to those in our book, you will be able to compare clothing and hair fashion, the poses adopted by the subject and the background settings.
The book provides convincing evidence that our ancestors were at least as fashion conscious as we are today and that those fashions changed just as frequently.
